While they were eating, Jesus said, “Amen, I say to you, one of you will betray me.” Despite knowing his betrayer, Jesus invited him to share in the Passover supper. How easy it would have been to exclude him as an enemy but instead Jesus welcomed him, hoping to the end for some reconciliation. We all too quickly to separate ourselves from those who don’t think like us, who belong to a different political party, who have a different race, who speak another language, who come from a foreign country. The story of Jesus and Judas challenges us to find a way to build a bridge even with those who might deny or betray us.
