Sts. Peter and John were ordered to stop preaching about Jesus by the authorities. They responded: “Whether it is right in the sight of God
for us to obey you rather than God, you be the judges.” They saw themselves under obedience to the Law of Love. In our day and time something similar occurred during the Civil Rights movement. Dr. King was challenged that he should obey the law. He wrote, “I submit that an individual who breaks a law that conscience tells him is unjust, and who willingly accepts the penalty of imprisonment in order to arouse the conscience of the community over its injustice, is in reality expressing the highest respect for law.” What does the Law of Love ask of you?
