The Feast of the Annunciation is such a big deal that the Church wants to celebrate it every year. It is important because on this day we remember the conception of Jesus in the womb of Mary; that “the Word became flesh.” Since Christmas is December 25 we count back nine months to March 25, the usual date. The problem is that March 25 often occurs in Holy Week (as this year) or Easter Week — and those days always take precedence. In that situation the Annunciation is moved to the first Monday after Easter Week, today. We should, therefore, take this day as the opportunity to spend some time in prayer meditating on the heart of Christian faith — God shares human life in Jesus coming into the world.
