God gave Ezekiel instructions: During the day while they are looking on, prepare your baggage as though for exile, and again while they are looking on, migrate from where you live to another place. The prophets not only preached powerful sermons calling Israel to repentance, they also performed prophetic actions to catch the peoples’ attention. Jeremiah, for example, wore an ox-yoke to warn of the coming oppression of the Babylonians. We have seen prophetic actions in our own day — think of the Berrigans burning draft cards or the Plowshare activists hammering a missile to protest nuclear weapons. Are there actions we can take which will “preach” of God’s love and justice? Maybe we can greet a stranger on the bus because we’re all God’s family?
