In the play, The Man of La Mancha, Aldonza asks Sancho Panza why he follows Don Quixote. “What do you get out of it?” If you listen to certain preachers you can get the idea that what we get out of following Jesus is good health, big incomes and happy families. That is certainly not what the Bible sees. Jeremiah consumed the word of God and it became “the joy and the happiness of my heart.” Instead of prosperity, however, living the word of God brought him opposition. Jesus taught that the kingdom of heaven is like a treasure, a pearl of great price. But in order to obtain it you must take the risk and give all that you have to obtain it.
