The readings assigned for today provide an interesting contrast. In the Book of Exodus, Anyone who wished to consult the LORD would go to this meeting tent outside the camp. To connect with God you had to find the sacred space, the dramatic moment, the experience of something unusual. Jesus, on the other hand, taught in parables. He wanted us to know that in order to connect with God all we needed to do was look around. Look at the patterns and rhythms of nature to see God. Look at the relationship between fathers and sons to see God. Look at a woman baking bread in order to see God. God is not found in the unusual but in the very stuff of life. Every space is sacred space and all ground is holy ground. The extraordinary is hidden in the ordinary if we have the eyes to see it.
