Jesus said, “if two of you agree on earth about anything for which they are to pray, it shall be granted to them by my heavenly Father.” My experience of prayer is not as straightforward as that. There seems to be a gap between my prayer and the fulfillment of that prayer. Moses standing on Mt. Nebo gazing into the unattainable promised land seems an apt metaphor for my experience of prayer. Like Moses I try to follow where God is leading. But in prayer I never quite seem to attain the fullness, the plentitude of God’s grace and mercy. Like Moses I can see it but not quite attain it. But maybe that it the point. It is the striving that matters to God.
