We tend to have different boxes that make up our lives. We have a family box, a work box, a play box, a finance box, a health box, a food box, and, for many people, a God box. God is just one of our concerns and interests among many. Jesus does not think like that. For Jesus God is the most important, the most valuable thing of all. He told the parables of the buried treasure and the pearl of great price to say that God is worth more than all the rest. God is so important that someone should sell “all that he has and buys it.” For Jesus God is like the frame that contains all the boxes, that we judge each box in light of God. In our prayer today we can look at all the many facets of our lives and see how they only make sense in light of our relationship with God.
