Ezekiel’s prophetic ministry began with a vision of God on wheels leaving Jerusalem to be with the people in exile. His ministry ends with another vision, one of restoration: The vision was like that which I had seen when he came to destroy the city… I fell prone as the glory of the LORD entered the temple by way of the gate which faces the east. Ezekiel gave the people hope that the destruction of the temple was not the end of the story, that God would bring them back from “the east” and they could worship anew. Hope seems in short supply these days so we need the prophetic reminder that in God our future is secure. Love is stronger than death.
