One of the daily readings is taken from one of the gospels. The other is taken either from the Old Testament or the New Testament. For the past few weeks the readings have been taken from the Old Testament prophets. Today we shift and start a cycle of reading from the epistles of Paul. St. Paul’s second letter to the Thessalonians seems to have been written to a community in crisis. He begins the letter with words of encouragement. We always pray for you, that our God may make you worthy of his calling and powerfully bring to fulfillment every good purpose. This serves to emphasize how important it is to pray for one another as a reminder of God’s desire to bless us.
