For the past few weeks the assigned reading was from the Old Testament. Today we shift to the New Testament with the first bit of writing we have from this period — St. Paul’s first letter to the Church in Thessalonica, written about the year 50AD. Paul had been on the road as an apostle for more than ten years at this point moving throughout present day Turkey and Greece. As his mission become more far flung he apparently decided that writing letters was a method he could use to keep connected. Letter writing was the appropriate media for his day but we have many more ways of keeping in touch in ours. Like Paul we should use whatever means we have to spread God’s love.
