The demon says to Jesus, “I know who you are–the Holy One of God!” I find that chilling. It suggests to me that it is no big deal to know about Jesus — even the demons know about Jesus. What is needed is to know Jesus, to know him as the source of our life, love and happiness. The challenge is captured in the phrase of St. Paul: “we have the mind of Christ.” To get the mind of Christ we go back to what Jesus said and taught. For example, we have the mind of Christ when we live the Beatitudes: when we are poor in spirit, when we hunger and thirst for justice, when we show mercy, when we are peacemakers.
