“The priests and prophets” were so critical of the prophet Jeremiah that they told him, “You must be put to death!” The people of Jesus hometown also criticized him. ‘”Where did this man get all this?’ And they took offense at him.” They didn’t seek his death yet, but that was coming. All of which is to say that we should not be surprised if people are critical of the things we do in the name of God. “Why do you care about those immigrants?” “Let those poor people raise themselves up like I did.” “The Second Amendment!” We must, like Jeremiah and Jesus, seek first, last and always to do the will of God wherever it leads us no matter what the push back.
