“Amen, I say to you, unless you turn and become like children, you will not enter the Kingdom of heaven.” How can we heed these words of Jesus? How can we “become like children?” When I think of how children are two things strike me. First, children receive gifts easily. They don’t feel guilty, they don’t feel undeserving, they don’t feel a need to reciprocate. They are simply overjoyed to receive a gift. The second characteristic I’ve observed: children can find a way to enjoy what is instead of moping about what they are missing. We’ve all seen a child enjoying a cardboard box! We can become like that, yes? We can receive the gifts God wants to give and we can accept whatever is as enough for joy.
