Jesus pointed out that “this generation” was going to criticize you no matter what you did. Actually that was not limited to his generation — it seems to be the human condition. That tells us that we should not let criticism determine our actions. We need to do always those things we think are God’s will. On the other hand, this also serves as a warning to us about our own tendency to be judgmental. When people don’t have the same opinions or back the same leaders we can be hypercritical. Jesus told us “wisdom is vindicated by her works.” When we see people helping those in need, extending forgiveness, working for peace, striving for justice we can recognize the face of God despite the differences.
