There is quite a difference between the prophetic word of Zephaniah: “Thus says the LORD” and the teaching style of Jesus: “What is your opinion?” Instead of providing a dictum from on high or a catechism answer, Jesus invited his listeners to think with him, to involve themselves in coming up with an answer. The response to the problem posed in the parable will, as a result, create a personal involvement in coming to the solution. Jesus did not see fit to provide answers but instead posed questions that people had to complete in their on lives. The Christian faith is not one size fits all but something which each one of us has to apply in the circumstances of our daily life.
