If they criticized Jesus you can be pretty sure they will criticize you as well. No matter what you do there will be naysayers out there. ‘We played the flute for you, but you did not dance, we sang a dirge but you did not mourn.’ Such attitudes are not helpful in spreading the gospel. Pope Francis said that “saints have the face of joy”, and that no one has ever seen a saint with “a sad face.” Being hyper-critical and fault-finding does not spread “the joy of the gospel.” Instead of looking for the negative seek to put a positive interpretation on what people are saying or doing. Who knows, we might be able to love someone into a transformation of life.
