One of the tasks of Elijah in the coming Messianic Age is “to turn back the hearts of fathers toward their sons.” Why would that even be an issue? Aren’t fathers already turned toward their sons? Then I thought about global warming. Scientists have painted a grim picture of what is in store for planet earth unless we dramatically change our ways which will particularly impact future generations. We see inklings of the coming disaster in the increasing storms and flooding. We know what we have to do to mitigate this outcome; however, it will demand changes in our lifestyle where we will lose some of the conveniences of modernity. The hearts of fathers need to be turned toward their sons so we are willing to pay the price now to ensure a healthier world for those who come after us.
