The readings suggest that the Advent theme for this day is to have a strong foundation in the faith. Isaiah says, A strong city have we. Jesus says, “A wise man built his house on rock.” Happily I live in a house with a strong foundation. Even though it is 130+ years old it is safe and secure. However, the house needs constant attention. If we are not careful the building will deteriorate. The faith is like that. As Catholics we have all that we need for a life in God. But we must carefully tend the faith to make sure that it stays strong. Prayer, reading, study, sharing all help to ensure that the faith on which we rely continues to guide our every step.
