As the saying goes: the rich get rich and the poor get poorer. (The current political environment reinforces the conventional wisdom.) However, Mary has an upside down vision. In her prayer we call the Magnificat (after its first word in Latin), Mary prays, “He has cast down the mighty from their thrones and has lifted up the lowly. He has filled the hungry with good things, and the rich he has sent away empty.” She has hope for this world that reflects better God’s plan where everyone will live in justice and peace. In our time we must absorb that message of hope and convey it to a hurting world. We, like Mary, must trust that God can make a way through any difficult situation.
