We say in our creeds that we are an apostolic faith because the apostles bear witness to the saving event of Jesus. What we have heard, what we have seen with our eyes, what we looked upon and touched with our hands concerns the Word of life — for the life was made visible; we have seen it and testify to it. But being an apostolic faith does not end there — we too are apostles, we too are to bear witness. We might not have walked the dusty roads of Galilee with Jesus but we have heard, seen, and looked upon and touched his presence. We have heard his saving message proclaimed and preached which shows us the right way to live in his world. We have seen how the presence of Jesus in one’s life makes it possible to turn from hatred to love. We have touched those who experience deep wounds and found genuine healing and forgiveness because of the presence of Jesus in their lives. Like the apostles before us we are called to share what we have heard, seen and touched so that others will know, as we know, the loving presence of Jesus in their lives.
