DECEMBER292016

December 29, 2016 By Church Staff

During the night prayer of the Church (compline) the prayer of Simeon is recited: “Lord, now let your servant go in peace; your word has been fulfilled.” Simeon is saying that he has completed his bucket list. When we recite our night prayer we are asked to reflect on our spiritual bucket list. Are we fulfilling our life with God? I have a New Yorker cartoon on my desk. Two monks are walking along and one says to the other, “I could have been a saint if I really wanted to.” I’m afraid that’s my story — called to be a saint but content with being decent. To be a saint I must heed the words of St. John and love ALL the brothers and sisters.
