Waiting is not prized in our culture. It feels like wasted time to wait. Where is that bus? Why does the person in the check out line take so long? Another flight delay! The story of Simeon and Anna told by St. Luke demonstrates that waiting is a Biblical value. There are certain things you can’t rush — the coming of the baby, the yeast working in the flour, the wine coming to full flavor. Realizing that some things — some of the best things — take time is a lesson that we need to absorb. Like the Gospel figures we are not privy to the plan of God but we know that the divine will is at work. The ancestors put it: God always comes on time.
