“Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the Kingdom of heaven, but only the one who does the will of my Father in heaven.” Once a mother asked me to talk with her grown son about why he left the Church. “Because they did away with eating fish on Friday,” was his answer. He thought of the faith as doing a series of things that you could check off so you could get your name in the book. Jesus tells us he doesn’t want our names he wants our hearts. It is the will of God that we are forgiving, that we reach out to those in need, that we are generous. We do churchy stuff to support a charitable heart.
