The story of Jesus healing the paralyzed man certainly intents to demonstrate the healing and forgiving power of Jesus. But I was struck that what occasioned this manifestation of divine power was not simply the need of the individual but the care extended by his friends. “When Jesus saw their faith” the gospels report, he was moved with pity. Those who brought the paralyzed man to Jesus were an important part of the cure. That speaks of the important role that we all play in making faith come alive. It is not simply a matter of “me and Jesus.” Other faith-filled people play an essential role in the divine plan. Look for the occasion today to bring divine grace, forgiveness and compassion to someone.
