Isaiah says, “the LORD is an eternal Rock.” Jesus teaches us to “be like a wise man who built his house on rock.” Where do we find the rock of our faith? That question becomes even more important in our time when so many things happening today can rattle the faith. The clergy abuse scandal or the ongoing divisions in the Church over issues like divorce or the pastoral care for gay Catholics can rattle the faith. When the parish you grew up in is slated for closure or consolidation it can rattle the faith. Some just walk away. It is at times like those that we have to find the true rock of our faith; namely, the personal relationship that we have with Jesus.
