Jesus does not say that becoming his follower makes everything hunky-dory. Rather, he offers a swap: trade the yoke of our labors and burdens for his and find things are easy and light. We bear our yoke when we insist that things have to go a certain way for us to be happy. When (inevitably) things don’t go as we would wish we feel upset and frustrated. On the other hand, we bear the yoke of Jesus when we trust that the plan of God is better than our plan. We know that sometimes the plan of God includes illness, financial struggles, others judging us. If we accept that God is smarter than we are and the divine plan better than ours true happiness comes.
