When the disciples saw the hungry crowd they thought in terms of what they didn’t have. “Where can anyone get enough bread to satisfy them here in this deserted place?” Jesus asked them to focus on what they did have. “How many loaves do you have?” Once you see how blessed you are it can multiply and grow. Take, for example, the plague of gun violence in our streets. We tend to notice that we have inadequate gun regulation, poor community/police relations, insufficient community youth resources. Jesus suggests we should concentrate on what we do have: a vast majority of people who are peaceful, parents and teachers eager to help, peer mentors who are a resource. Let these things multiply and see what happends!
