“Am I my brother’s keeper?” Our situation has proven that the answer to Cain’s question is “yes.” The one thing the pandemic has proven is that we can’t simply think about ourselves. We must also think in terms of the common good. In a post-pandemic world (whenever that will be!) we need to expand that type of thinking when we make decisions about how to care for the environment. We are accustomed to our creature comforts such as hopping into our gas powered cars and going where we want when we want. Acting in a way that preserves the environment for the next generation will demand sacrifices from us … which we are willing to make for the sake of our brothers, sisters, and children.
