“The LORD’s way is not fair!” The prophet Ezekiel heard people say that. I certainly have felt it. Why do the rich get richer? Why do good people get sick? Most recently, it doesn’t seem fair that the politicians who make decisions about who has access to weapons are letting school children become the victims of those decisions. We can’t figure out God’s plan. That reminds me of a thought from J.D. Salinger: religion is what God inflicts on those who accuse him of creating an ugly world. Maybe the reason we think God is unfair is that we focus too much on the ugliness and not see the beauty which is all around us. A good Lenten practice: back up and notice the beauty.
