If you ask a mother who her favorite child in the family is she will, no doubt, smile and say: “I love all my children equally.” Which is true since love is a verb and a mother acts for the well being of all her children. However, it should not be a surprise that a mother finds certain of her children easy to get along with, more compatible. That helps us to understand God’s relationship with the Chosen People. “Today the LORD is making this agreement with you: you are to be a people peculiarly his own.” God loves us all equally. There is nothing we can do to alter the love God has for us. We make God smile when we love in return.
