In the movie, Chariots of Fire a British team was preparing for the 1924 Olympics. One of the runners refused to enter the qualifying heats because they were being held on a Sunday. He honored the Lord’s Day by complete rest. In doing so he was part of a long tradition going back to the Ten Commandments. If you honor the Sabbath by not following your ways, seeking your own interests, or speaking with malice– Then you shall delight in the LORD. What with soccer games for the kids, household chores that can’t get done during the work week, or large family gatherings which require a full day in the kitchen Sunday rest has gone by the wayside. What can we do to recover its spirit?
