Families are complicated. Certainly Jesus’ was. Those who knew him best did not understand him. He was amazed at their lack of faith. I must confess to a similar amazement that the next generation in my family no long practices the faith. Being raised in a Catholic home and attending Catholic elementary and high schools did not inspire my nieces and nephews to follow their parent’s example. Of course this is not limited to my family but is characteristic of the millennial generation. There are those who are exploring how this happened and others who are imagining how to reach out and touch those who are disaffected. The elder generation’s role is to “strive for holiness without which no one will see the Lord.”
