You can imagine how relieved Jairus felt when Jesus agreed to visit his sick daughter: “Please, come lay your hands on her that she may get well and live.” Then imagine how Jairus felt when Jesus is stopped on the way by the woman seeking a healing. He probably thought some variation of “you have been sick for twelve years; my daughter is sick now.” In the providence of God Jesus was able to bring God’s healing presence into both situations. All of which says we, like Jairus, can become so obsessed with what we are going through, with our problems that we are blinded to the troubles of others. As the gospel demonstrates, Jesus is not zero sum but super abundant in bestowing grace.
