Many ancient cultures have a creation story which features some sort of struggle or battle between good and evil, light and darkness, sky and earth in order to produce the world. The Biblical creation story differs in that God is the sole creator and God created everything good. God saw how good it was at each stage of the unfolding story. (It is not until the humans enter the story that we get the introduction of evil.) Since God created everything and God created everything good creation is sacred. There is no “pure nature” since everything is infused with God’s presence (grace.) We have the responsiblity of caring for the gift of creation in a way that reflects the plan that God has for it.
