Jesus sent the apostles out to have an initial taste of what it was like to bring good news to people. They came back full of stories. Then he said, “Come away by yourselves to a deserted place and rest a while.” This was not simply a vacay because they were tired. This was also the opportunity to reflect on their experience and to come to understand it in the light of God’s presence in the lives. How important it is for each one of us to “come away by oneself” in order to find God in all things. Everyone should do this daily by taking time for a prayerful reflection on the day and, if possible, even for some days away for annual retreat.
