From now until the beginning of Lent we will be reading from the book of Genesis. The first eleven chapters are called pre-history since they are not accounts of actual reportable events but stories to help the believer understand the foundations of the history to follow starting with Abraham. The first two chapters tell of God’s creation of the world. As the days of creation are described God saw how good it was. This is in contrast to Israel’s neighbors who looked on creation as a battle between good and evil. The Jewish tradition which Christianity inherits believes that God created everything and God created everything to be good. (Stay tuned for how evil entered good creation.) Our responsibility: preserve the goodness of creation.
