When children are born they, like Jesus, “grow in wisdom, age and grace.” The growth is not meant as an end in itself but to equip us to give back what we have received. We eventually reach what me might call a “John the Baptist” moment when we realize it’s not about me. “He must increase; I must decrease,” said the Baptist. One such moment is when we fall in love. At that moment we want to make our beloved happy no matter what the cost to ourselves. An even more dramatic moment is parenthood when parents commit themselves to the well being of this child even knowing that entails great sacrifice. Where are you called to get the focus off of yourself today?
