King Saul is a character from the Bible who evokes pity. He didn’t ask to be made king but had it thrust upon him. Apparently the reason he got the job was because he looked the part. Once placed into leadership he did the best he could but kept tripping over his own two feet. The prophet Samuel, who promoted him for kingship, turned against him. Saul doesn’t understand why.Saul answered Samuel: “I did indeed obey the LORD and fulfill the mission on which the LORD sent me. Saul seems to have been caught between the expectations of the prophet (and hence, God) and the aspirations of his army. Saul lacked what is called purity of intention, doing always and only what God wants.
