The epistle to the Hebrews provides an account of the prayer of Jesus that the gospel writers report happened in the Garden of Gethsemane. He offered prayers and supplications with loud cries and tears to the one who was able to save him from death, and he was heard because of his reverence. “He was heard,” the author of the epistle assures us even though he was not saved from death! Remember the prayer: “Father, if it is possible let this cup pass from me, yet not as I will but as you will.” The heavenly Father heard the prayer of Jesus even when not granting the request. This is a model for our prayer. God always hears us when we call. However, the plan of God is wiser than our wishes or desires so at times God says “no” to what we are asking for because divine providence has something better that what we would know to ask.
