When Jesus appeared before Pilate he said “the reason I was born and came into the world is to testify to the truth.” As a result, witnessing to truth is at the heart of the Christian life. That helps explain the concern of the St. John in his first epistle: “Who is the liar?” In our age truth does not seem to be a major concern — and this is not limited to certain politicians who play fast and loose with the truth. Our post-modern culture has adopted the philosophy “you do your thing and I’ll do mine” as if it didn’t make any difference what one believed or stood for. That is not gospel. The truth is we must all live as children of God.
