The conversion of St. Paul was a really big deal in the Church’s history, the only such feast in the liturgical year. St. Luke in the Acts of the Apostles tells the story three different times and Paul himself gives his take in the letter to the Galatians. The three accounts in Acts differ in the details. As I drew near to Damascus a great light from the sky suddenly shone around me. I fell to the ground and heard a voice … My companions saw the light but did not hear the voice of the one who spoke to me. The lesson for us: even if we don’t get knocked off our horse we still need to be converted to a closer following of Jesus.
