Several years ago when I was in leadership we brought in a consulting firm to help us develop a strategy for fund raising. They wanted to know all of the plans for the wonderful things we were going to accomplish. That made me think of the parable of Jesus: a man would scatter seed on the land and would sleep and rise night and day and the seed would sprout and grow, he knows not how. So many of the best things that we did came not from any plan of ours but in God’s design. For example, Brother Alexis did not plan on becoming an alcoholic but his recovery ministry touched the lives of thousands. We decided not to use the consulting firm.
