The gospels make clear there were many concerns competing for the attention of Jesus. When Our Lord responded to Jairus’ petition to help his sick daughter you sense an almost palpable relief on the part of the synagogue official. When the woman distracted Jesus from going directly to care for the young girl, Jairus was probably beside himself. “You’ve been sick for twelve years, lady. Can’t you wait a little while longer so that Jesus can take care of this immediate need?” But Jesus was completely present to both situations — to the woman in distress and to the young girl and her family. A good model for us to follow — don’t be so distracted by other things that you miss who is right before you.
