Since it was written in 1987 I guess it’s a “golden oldie” but the U2 song still raises today’s question: what are you looking for? Jesus asked that of his first disciples and it resonates in our hearts now. However, according to the song: “You broke the bonds and you loosened chains carried the cross of my shame. You know I believe it but I still haven’t found what I’m looking for.” The lyrics suggest that even professing the right catechism answer does not quell the restless heart. For the truth is that what we are looking for is a relationship. That is the answer Jesus supplies when he tells those first believers “come and see.” What we are looking for is Jesus as a friend.
