Yesterday I heard the distressing news that my niece’s husband has a brain tumor. I am trying to figure how to be a support. When I experienced some emotional storm in my life I have been able to rely on faith. Jesus tells me to “Take courage, it is I, do not be afraid!” and then he gets into the boat with me and together we can weather the storm. Like most young people today my niece and her husband are “nones,” without any religious affliation and so do not have the blessed assurance of faith. What they do have is love. St. John says, God is love, and whoever remains in love remains in God and God in him. Love will get them through.
