The Church, and many parents, are concerned about the rise of the “nones.” Among millennials and “gen z” more than half of those polled claim no religious affiliation. Where will those we care about find the spiritual nourishment that every human being requires if not in a religious context? To assuage that concern a bit we have the first epistle of St. John: Because love is of God; everyone who loves is begotten by God and knows God. Thus, even if you do not acknowledge God’s existence if you live in love you are living in God whether you know it or not. We should have as our concern forming loving individuals and pray that they discover in time the source of that love.
