Shows about cooking are popular in TV. There are magazines that send new recipes every month. Cookbooks are perennial best sellers. As interesting as it is to watch or read about food being made it is nothing like eating! A recipe is not a meal. Sometimes believers stress too much “the recipe,” the description of who Jesus is. As valuable as our creeds and catechisms are they are no substitute for the “meal,” which in this case means getting to know Jesus in a personal way. The demons knew who Jesus was but it did them no good. They knew about Jesus but they didn’t know Jesus. In our prayer we must enter into an intimate conversation with the One who loves us above all.
