A few years ago, because of an office I held, I took training in “media relations.” The gist of the program was to have your own points in mind and no matter what the interviewer asked you, always keep coming back to those points. Politicians nowadays must have had the same training. No matter what anyone asks they say their talking points. Given the public nature of the Church we must have our particular points that we present to the public. Maybe that is what Jesus meant when he said, “be shrewd as serpents and simple as doves.” Our talking points are about love, mercy, compassion, forgiveness, generosity. Let’s keep coming back to them so we can shift the conversation in a more godly direction.
