When Moses encountered God in the Burning Bush they talked. “If they ask me, ‘What is his name?’ what am I to tell them?” God replied, “I am who am.” A scripture scholar told me that what we translate as “I am who am” could just as easily be translated as “I am the one who is for you” or “I am the one who is with you.” We might translate it as “I have your back.” That understanding of God’s name explains Jesus commandment that we swap our yoke for his. Our yoke is needing the family, our health, our finances to be well. Not easy. Jesus’ yoke is trusting that no matter how things are going God has our back. Easy and light.
